Greek given names are often taken from those of saints, especially those of Eastern Orthodox tradition. Ancient Greek names are also used. See European names.
Greek names are normally written in the Greek alphabet. When they are represented in the Latin alphabet (of English for example) they are transcribed, which can result in multiple spellings for a single name depending on the transcription. For example Αγαπη can be rendered Agape or Agapi.
The word name in Greek is ονομα (onoma).
