"Horo" is Czech for "mountain". The suffix "-vich" in Slavic languages denotes "son of". So although the name Horovice derives from the town, the town's name itself means "mountain dweller" or "mountain son". (The nearby town of "Beroun" similarly gave rise to the surname "Berenstein".)
