There seems to have been a Sir James (I think) Marley who would go back & forth from England to Jamaica. 15th century or 16th century? Seems as if this Marley either owned or was overseer to sugar cane plantations. As in the USA, slaves would take their owner's last name & a number of the men in Jamaica took the name MARLEY.
