Meaning & History

From Roxburgh, a village near the market town of Kelso in the Scottish Borders area in Scotland, derived from the Old English byname Hroc meaning "rook" and burh meaning "fortified place". Historically, it was a royal burgh and now a civil parish in the former county of Roxburghshire. A famous bearer is Australian actor Richard Roxburgh (1962-).
