From Șerb, Latin Servus, meaning "serfdom".
Serban is a Romanan name, old and noble. It would seem that the Serban name was first attested in Fagaras Country, where Romanians lived together with Cuman and Pechenegs tribes. Afterwards, the people named Serban were moved to Oltenia county. From this nobility family were part the rulers Radu Serban and Constantin Serban Basarab.
As shown, the Serban family is related with the great families founding of the nation and country Basarabii and Craiovestii. Later, after the revolution of Tudor Vladimirescu, the family descendants on which we refer moved in the actual counties; Teleorman, Giurgiu and in Bucharest.
