Meaning & History

Variant form of Spatafora. Spadafora is the younger out of the two surnames and yet the most common of the two, which might partly be because it is a little bit more italianized. After all, spada is the modern Italian word for "sword", which indicates that Spadafora is 'closer' to Italian than Spatafora, which is closer to the original Greek origin instead (as the first element of the surname is derived from Greek spathe meaning "blade, sword").

A known bearer of this surname is the American professional boxer Paul Spadafora (b. 1975).
