Ida B. Wells (1862-1931) was an African-American investigative journalist and early civil rights and women's rights activist. She is known for her campaign against the lynching of African-Americans.

Rosemary Wells (1943-) is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She is well-known for Max & Ruby, Noisy Nora, and A Lion for Lewis, as well as many other beloved children's books.
