Meaning & History

It is written three ways: 由 (yu) meaning "reason, cause" and 井 (i) meaning "well, mineshaft, pit". Or (yu) meaning the same as the latter, but with 比 (i) meaning "compare". Lastly, 油 (yu) can mean "oil" and (i) meaning the same as the first example.

A notable bearer is Kimiya Yui, he is an astronaut.
