Meaning & History
From the name of a town and municipality in Biscay, Spain, of uncertain etymology. A popular theory is that it derives from Latin munda aqua "clean water", but there is no evidence to support this origin. Possibly composed of the Basque toponymic suffix -aka and an uncertain first element, perhaps muino "hill, slope".
