Meaning & History
Possibly an Old Norman form of Cassino, itself a diminutive of Cassio, the Italian variant of the Roman name Cassius. It could also be an Old Norman cognate of the French word "Coccinelle" meaning "ladybird" or "ladybug" from the scientific Latin name "Coccinellidae" for the family of ladybug beetles. Coccinella septempunctata is the name for the common North American 7 spotted ladybug. Betin Caucinel was a 13th century Italian banker, born in Rouen.
