[Opinions] Israel
I saw pictures today of a baby boy named Israel. I don't believe he's Jewish or anything... WDTY?

I love the name, it was my great grandfather's name, and I'm going to name one of my future sons like this. It's a bit original on a non Jewish baby, but after all there are non French people called Frances, non Italian called Roman, non German called German... and so on :)

Well, the country's name came after the given name, but of course most people would associate it with the country. It's a beautiful place I'm sure, and historically fascinating, but the mess that's going on there means there are qutie negative connotations for me. Still, the sound of "Israel" is lovely.

Went to school with an Israel, also not Jewish. I don't care for the name, myself.

Yipes. Maybe they're Christian Zionists.I don't like it. It's too politically-influenced sounding to me, whether he's Jewish or not. - chazda

I like the sound, but wouldn't use it because I'm not Jewish.Jacob's a good, more secular alternative.Miranda

I don't care for it. And, I don't think someone needs to be Jewish to have a Jewish name.
