Help[Opinions] Seems to me this is also common in the New England area

I have relatives in Pennsylvania, New York and Boston. They all do this -ee thing. Cliffy, Kurty, Jackie, etc - all grown men. Bostonians refer to state troopers as "staties." It sounds so childish to me!
