I was looking athe the German name popularity and I'm curious about the data from the years between 1949-1989 because Germany was split in half between those years.
Is the data from one of the sides or a combination of both or something else?

It's a combination of BRD and DDR (GDR).
There are no official statistics in Germany, the ones on this website were researched by Knud Bielefeld. On his website, he points out, that all data refer to the modern borders of germany.
