Hi!
My mother's mother maiden's surname is Tchakarov(a)
It is a Bulgarian surname, but even in Bulgaria it is quite exceptional. I was wondering what it meant...
My mother has been told that it has something to do with Turkish origins, but she is not sure.
Any help about this name would be quite useful.

The spelling Chakarov is more common in Bulgaria. I think it may the Bulgarian form of the Turkish name Cakar (and/or Çakar?). Neither name is in the Turkish dictionary though, but I did find out that in the Kyrgyz language, cakar means 'sharp, lively', which is perfect for a name (It is pronounced tchakar of course).
