Houck, I believe is German. One site I found said that they had traced their family to Stuttgart ...the closest word I found was 'hoch' which means "height" ...there are a lot of local variations to words ...

Spade ...may be German, Späth, meaning late or later, probably denoting a younger child ...just a guess ...
