There are a lot of names that can mean red or red head. More often than not, your last name was derived by either your appearance or what you did for a living.
Flynn/Flinn/Flann are Irish and mean red or red head/ hair.
Roy is Scottish
Couch is Welsh
Roth/ Rothenberg means red in German
Cervenka is Czech
But what I found odd is the following:
Kokinos is Greek. I think red hair would be pretty uncommon in Greece so if you find a link there, dig deeper.
Roig is Catalan/Spanish. Again, I would not generally think of red hair and this region.
I do know that red hair is a recessive, mutated gene and only a very small percentage of people have naturally red hair. I've read that this gene may be getting more rare, though not going extinct and that red hair is most common among people with Irish/Scottish/Celtic ancestry.
