At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, he was the winner of the men's 200 metres freestyle competition as well as the men's 400 metres freestyle competition. He placed third (and thus won the bronze medal) at the men's 100 metres freestyle competition, also at the same Summer Olympics.
