[Opinions] WDYT of Sophia?
I love Sophia, but it's obviously mega-popular right now--at least according to the rankings. :( However, rankings--especially the national rankings--can't tell you how popular a name is likely to be in the area you actually live in.
1. How many people do you know named Sophia, Sophie, or Sofia, and what are their ages?
2. Do you consider it "trendy" or just "popular?"
3. What are a few names that are particularly popular among young children in your area right now (I ask just to have a basis for comparison.)
Thanks--
June

I don't know anyone named Sophia, Sophie or Sofia
2. Do you consider it "trendy" or just "popular?"
I don't think it's trendy, I'd say it's semi-popular
3. What are a few names that are particularly popular among young children in your area right now (I ask just to have a basis for comparison.)
Emma, Jaden, Ethan, Matthew, Ryan, Abigal, Audrey, Jacob, Braden, Logan, Madison, Olivia. Sophie et al aren't nearly as popular as these names.

Abigal should be Abigail

I love Sophie/Sophia! I only personally know one person named Sophie, and she is 15. I don't exactly consider it trendy...I've heard of people of all ages named Sophie or Sophia.
Some names popular among young girls where I live are: Katherine/Katie, Lindsey, Ashley, Emily, etc. I seem to hear these names countless times on young children or babies.

Oh, I am in the same situation as you. I plan on naming my first daughter Sophia, but it does concern me that it has become so popular lately.
1. How many people do you know named Sophia, Sophie, or Sofia, and what are their ages?
I only know one Sophia and she is about 15 years old.
2. Do you consider it "trendy" or just "popular?"
This is such an old fashioned name that I don't think you can consider it "trendy" at all. It just happens that a lot of people like the name right now and it is very "popular." I would say the same for names like Olivia, Catherine/Katherine, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Emma, etc etc.
3. What are a few names that are particularly popular among young children in your area right now (I ask just to have a basis for comparison.)
In my area the most popular names are Madison, Olivia, Jacob, Caleb.

1. I love the name Sophie. Unfortunately, I know four Sophies under the age of six. I do also know one Sophia who is a toddler. Other than that, the only one I can think of is Sophia Loren. So Sophia seems a slightly better bet to me.
2. I consider it popular. When I think "trendy", I think of something that is a flash-in-the-pan. Something that becomes all the rage out of nowhere, and then just as quickly goes out of fashion. Sophia, on the otherhand, is actually a very old name that has just gone in and out of style from generation to generation. It just happens to be a peak period again now.
3. Besides Sophie, some girls names I hear a lot where I live are:
Emily, Emma, Olivia, Abigail "Abby", Grace, Madeline "Maddie", Chloe, Isabelle/Isabella, Katie/Katelyn/Kate

1. I know 1 Sophie and 3 Sophias, the Sophie is around 40 and the Sophias are 27, 3 and 18 mos.
2. I consider it popular, but its too much of a classic to be trendy. In Chicago, where I live, I think its in the top 10 in girl names, and I know its also very high nationwide.
3. Other names that are popular in my area - Isabel/lle/lla; Aidan; Jack; Charles (nn Charlie); Olivia; Madeleine (and variations); and Katherine/Kathleen with nn Katie. I know or know of at least two of each of these, all in kids under 5. Charlie and the Isabel variations are the most popular.

1. Sophie - 1 (15), Sophia/Sofia - 3 or 4 (16 or 17, and I'm not sure of the spelling except for one, my good friend Sofia, who goes by Sofi)
2. I think they're both trendy-ish here (UK), but not horribly so.
3. Courtney and Brandon seem to be the most popular. Pretty much, if you look at the most popular names in the US ten years ago, they're the most popular names in my area now. There's also a trend of double-barrelled names...Ellie-Mae, Sophie-Jae, etc.
