[Opinions] can you come up with a mn? And do you think people would give a (in my opinion) horrible nickname?
Hi! What do you guys think of Melissa? I really like it. Can you think of any middle names? And, do you think people would try to shorten it to Missy, which I absolutely despise?

Well, I love it... ;) it's my name!! Some advice
I hated my name when I was one of so many in my school classes. After college though, I started appreciating the fact that it has a history from Greek mythology, Orlando Furioso, etc. It seems that less people are using the most popular names now, so even the top names on the popularity list will be shared among less people than in the 70's when I was born. If you like, it, use it, Melissa is fairly unpopular now among newborns.
No one ever called me Missy, because my parents made it a point to use my full name. (I hate Missy too, it sounds like prissy and I have known too many cats with this name LOL). I like and have been called:
Mel
Meli
Lis
Lissa
I also love Mitzi or Mischa as possible nn's for me- I think I would like either of these best ;) HTH!!

my full name was supposed to have been Melissa Kathryn ;)
I like it :). Combos:
Melissa Leanne
Melissa Scarlett
Melissa Elisabeth
Melissa Elise
I would never have thought of using Missy as a nn lol! I love Lissa/Lissy, though.

I think most people would shorten it to Mel...
I absolutely love the sound of Melissa, and resent that it was so overused in the 80s and that I've known a fair few annoying or ditsy ones. I might still use it anyway - it's on my "wavering favourites" list!
My best friend in primary school was Mellisa Joan, and we called her Missy, but I prefer Lissy as a nn for Melissa. Mel is nmsaa.
Hmm . . .
Melissa Jean
Melissa Charlotte
Melissa Rose
Melissa Katherine
Melissa Kathleen
Melissa Therese
Melissa Kate
Melissa Rachel
Melissa Hannah
Melissa Faith
Melissa Joy
Melissa Naomi
WDYT? I think I like Melissa Kate or Melissa Joy the most.

Hi Chrisell!! Whoa, this is so weird... I'm used to people here hating the names I like. But I'm persistent in posting them! LOL it's nice, every once in a while, to have someone like the same name. As for Missy, I don't think PEOPLE named Missy are bad or ditzy, I just don't like it, I think because it's what some people call little girls when they're being bad (or call adult women to degrade them). Like, "You'd better stop hitting your brother, little missy!". Anyway, I liked your suggestions, especially Melissa Kathleen. My great grandmother's name was Kathleen and I've always liked it. Plus, I've always liked double names and Lissie Kate sure would be cute (as a nickname when she was little) or Melissa Kate if she went to school with another Melissa.
Lissy Kate is very sweet :-)
My family never used "missy" that way but my stepmother does to her daughter so perhaps that's why I dislike it (I don't get along with her at all).
I'm hoping to one day name my first daughter Jean, after my grandmother, and I have a constantly rotating set of "frilly" middle names to go with it (Elisabeth, Isobel, Cecily and Meredith being the usual ones). I think Jean Melissa might have to be added to the list!

I think people are way more likely to shorten Melissa to Mel and Lissa. Melissa is ok. Pretty. Just not a favourite. Perhaps because there are just too many Melissas in my age bracket around here...
Melissa Claire
Melissa Jane

I like Mel and Lissa (and Lis or Lissie).... just hate Missy! How many Melissas do you know? I'm curious about it's popularity
:oD
:oD
I couldn't begin to count the Melissas I know. Leave it be that I had 3 Melissas on my soccer team in any given year, and there were generally always 2 in my classes at school.
