Yes, it is a very popular name. I personally know 4 little ones named Sophia (some nn'ed Sophie.)
However, popularity is not a turn-off for me. If you've loved a name for so long, I think it would actually be more difficult not to name the child that! You'll be at the playground and see a lot of Sophias, but everytime they are called, you'll adore that name all over again.
I loved the name Haley since I was a child. Despite the popularity of the name, I used it because I adored it.
