I like Ryan for a boy, but I wouldn't use it because it is too popular, like you mentioned. It is also true that there are some girls named Ryan, but the boys by far outnumber the girls with this one, and you will see that there are actually fewer girls being named Ryan now than 20 years ago if you look at the popularities (though it is starting to creep back up again).
