[Opinions] nicknames for William

Hey everyone! I intend on naming my first son after my dad and grandfather: William Malcolm. Can anyone think of any nicknames for William? All I've got are Will, Willie, Bill, Billy, Wills, Wim and Liam. None of them really float my boat. I think William Malcolm is quite an attractive name, but William is too formal on it's own for me. I kind of like Billy, but I really dislike Bill which is what he'd probably be called when he was older, and for some reason Liam, although I like it, seems kind of childish, too. Any ideas?

William is such a beautiful name, it doesn't need a nn (especially Liam, which is ugly to me).

I like Billy too. Billy Boyd(Pippin from the Lord of the Rings) is 36(I think) and he still goes by Billy and pulls it off fine.
I like Liam too and I can see it on someone of any age.I do not like Wil / Will / Willy at all so good to avoid them. :)
I don't know there are anymore nicknames other than the ones you already have.-Seda*

What about using his middle name instead of a nickname?

I like the name William, and I think it's great to use family names! But, I don't think parents should plan nicknames, but instead, they should be left up to the child. You may like Billy, but maybe he won't. You don't like Bill, but maybe he will. Anyway, the nicknames you've listed are all I can think of.

but I'd have to call him something... anyway, found perfect nickname :o)
William seems way too formal for a baby. I agree, you SHOULD be able to pick your own nickname (or change it completely if you feel so inclined), but you've got to call your kid SOMETHING until they're old enough to decide for themselves. Anyway, right after posting this, I went and looked at another web site that had a ton of nicknames for William. Bo was on the list. That's quite a nice surprise as Bo is one of my favorite names (albeit for a girl), so that would be a perfect nickname. I think it would grow on me as a boy's name. Problem solved! Wow, that was quick!

I'm glad you've found something, but why not just call him William his first years of life, before he chooses a nickname (if he would even want one)? Just curious.

She already said she feels it's too formal for a baby/small child.

Yes, but...I know, but I thought maybe another reason would be that her husband or husband's father was called William already. I should have posted my question as, "are there any other reasons why you wouldn't call him William?" Sorry.
