[Opinions] Merritt
I posted before about the name Merel. In the culture where I was when I first heard the name (in Africa), it was difficult to distinguish the last sound, so sometimes the name sounded like Meret. That got me to thinking about the name Meret and I really like this name for a girl. I think it has a pretty sound, but do you instantly think of the word 'merit' when you hear it? This has positive connotations but I think it could bring alot of teasing too. I am not sure what spelling I would use... BtN lists Merritt and Merit. I like Meret too- what do you think of these? Can someone tell me about the names Maret and Marit? BtN says that they are from Margaret. Are they pronounced like the english word merit? Thanks for your help!

Merit is the only spelling I like. Merrit I can kind of accept, but Meritt, Merritt, and Meret all look ridiculous to me. I'd want to pronunce Meret so that it rhymed with "beret".Moreover, I prefer Merit on a boy, but it does, of course, work on either sex.If I remember right, Marit would be MAR-eet or mar-EET. They're not pronunced like Merit.Array

You probably don't want to hear this....I work in a nursing home.
Merit is a popular brand of incontinence pad.

That is the first thing that comes to my mind.
If it's any consolation, most people probably wouldn't think of that!

I dislike double T endings - they always seem quite harsh (e.g. I like Bennet not Bennett, Eliot not Elliott etc). I like the spelling Merit, and it has the advantage of being a vocab word as well (if you like vocabulary names).Merit Emilie is really sweet I think.
