Well, I like it - although it's distinctly dated, it doesn't feel extremely unfashionable. I think if there are Canadians in the family for whom it means the province and has associated connotations, it's probably not a good name, but otherwise it's great.

Edit: And I wanted to add that we live in British Columbia, Canada right next to Alberta and her last name was Washington, which is the American State that borders our province - so I don't think having just Alberta is too placey!

I don't care for it. The male Albert elment is too strongly within it, and I find it rather ugly looking and sounding for a girl. Sorry.

I like it. I love the sound of it, Alberta! It might be a little old fashioned, but I still like it!

I think the fact that it's a big problem for your bf that's good enough reason not to use it. I am Canadian and all I think of is the province. Sorry would NEVER use it.

I think it is really gorgeous. Very cute for a little girl.

I live in Canada, but in British Columbia. I've been to Alberta once in my life, ostensively to attend a cousin's wedding (which was really just my family's excuse to go to the West Edmonton Mall, the largest mall in the world, lol).

That was some years back, and I only remember the province a little. I remember it was quite sunny and warm, and nice.

But as for the name Alberta itself, strangely enough it doesn't remind me of the province. I like it though, as I like old-fashioned names and Alberta sounds particularly elegant and regal to me.
