[Facts] Meaning/ Origin of the name Cheryl

While cheryl is indeed " Variant of the French Cherie dear one; darling." other sources say it is the "Feminine form of Charles ", originating in German! Im confused. Just to make it clear I'm not the other Cheryl, im new, hence the 'B.'
