[Facts] How do you pronounce Aya?
Replies
I know a Dutch woman who is called Aya, it's pronounced AH-ya
I've always said it AY-a, but now I recall that few months back I was informed that Amaya (which I previously pronounced a-MAY-a) was properly pronounced a-mie-a in Japanese. So, I would tend to agree that ie-a was the proper Japanese pronunciation of Aya.
*Japanese, like French, properly doesn't have emphasised syllables. If your accent forces emphases, I would say that a-MIE-a and IE-a would be the most appropriate way of saying these two names.
