Help[Surname] surname Smoyer
hi, i was just wondering if anybody out there has ever heard of or know someone with the last name of Smoyer. Also any idea of its meaning, our guess is that its german since most our heritage is. it probably is a shortened form of Schmoyer but i'm not 100% sure. Any help is appreciated, thanks!!

Both surnames exist in USA: quite a few families.
But in german or danish telephone directories I couldn't find such a surnames.
The nearest surname I have found in a gerna dictionary of surnames
is SMOEGER but I didn't find out the meaning.

I checked Ancestry.com and it says "Origin Unidentified" but hints that it may be related to Schmoyer which also says "Origin Unidentified" ...
