[Opinions] Larissa Nickname Question
Reading Shay's "L" post from yesterday and all its replies got me thinking about my own name--and how many people seem to like it. I myself never had an issue with it (well, except for the fact that my parents don't pronounce it the American way, they pronounce it the Russian way but hey, that's another story.)So, I think I might consider naming my daughter after me. No, this is not another "should I?" post. I'm just curious as to what I would call her. I know there's a number of you who think nicknames shouldn't be planned but calling both the Larissas in the house Larissa will create confusion.Which nicknames do you think work well? I was considering Lara but any other suggestions would be appreciated. (Note: I can't use Lissa)

Well since it's my own name, i only have Laris, Lis/Liz, and Lissa (by my mum), and Indy, but that's another story.. But Lara is a good one too

How about:
Rissa
Issy (Izzy)
Ara
Lolly/Lally (but this would not be suitable for all ages)
Ree
I think Lara works well though. How are the pronunciations of Larissa different?

The American way is when it rhymes with Melissa and the Russian way is when it sounds like it could rhyme with Lisa.

I see, so it rythms with the spanish way of saying my name. I say my name mah-RIS-ah the italian way, but in spanish it is mah-REE-sah. My mom had intended for my name to be said mah-REE-sah but for some reason I always thought mah-RIS-ah and never realized until I was older that she had intended it to be said mah-REE-sah, maybe I couldn't pronounce it as well or something.---------------------------------------------------------------------

Just to clarify, so we're on the same page; what would the Italian way of saying Marisa rhyme with?

Melissa or Clarissa, or Larissa if you said it lah-RIS-ah or Lah-RIS-sah.---------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a best friend named Clarissa. And some times we just get too lazy and leave out the "Cla" and we call her "Rissa". I think it's cute and it definatly suits her. Do you like it? Or you could use Larissa as a middle name.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think Lara is just lovely, I'd go with it. Other options could be Ari, Lis or Issa.

I love Larissa with Lara as the nickname. I also like the Russian diminutive of Larushka.

Rissa is a good one. My name is Marisa and my friend calls me Missa, similar to your nick Lissa. Only I'm also called Miss Missa. Or Miss Missa Marisa. Or Lir Lir or Lar Lar or Lassa or Laris would work.---------------------------------------------------------------------
