I choose Rowan because of the amount of celebrities who have named their sons Roman.

Rowan, hands down. Sounds Irish.Roman sounds like a name for a soap opera character, or I just think of the Ancient Romans.

This one's easy for me. I love the name Roman! It's one of my faves (I love the combo Roman Spencer) for a boy at the moment, despite it's recent popularity with the celebrities. Roman definitely gets my vote.I personally think of Rowan as a girls' name, probably because all the Rowan's I know have been girls. So if I were ever to use Rowan, it'd be for a girl; I don't like it for a boy.

Roman...it sounds very strong and masculine...Rowan is not really a favorite of mine I just dont like the 'row' part...however I like Ronan

I prefer Rowan slightly. Actually - and this is unusual for me - it's the meaning that makes the difference. Roman reminds me of ancient Rome, which is a cool association but a little bit chilly and butch for my taste, compared to naturey tree name Rowan.I like both names though. They're both a little on the "trendy" side, but both are quite "classy" to me too.- chazda

I like Rowan. It sounds nicer to me than Roman and it's the name of a very beautiful tree. In folklore, the Rowan tree has been believed to have magical powers and has been used in Celtic, Druidic, Irish, and Norse legends. It's a symbol of beauty, hospitality, and protection, and has been used in charms against bewitchment. The druids used it to call spirits to aid in battle and it has been used to repel evil spirits. When I hear Roman I think or Rome, and my mom's Roman nose. None of those are bad but it just seems like Siri said as strange as naming a son French.---------------------------------------------------------------------

Roman is ok but I associate it too much with the character on Days of our Lives. :b And now it's becoming a bit trendy with the celebs. I definitely love Rowan, but only for a boy.

Roman. I've always liked it. I knew the sweetest little boy named Roman. Rowan just isn't my style.

I really don't like either, but I'd choose Rowan if necessary. I think Roman is a bit like name a kid "American" or "Canadian." -Amy-

Between Roman and Rowan, I prefer Roman. It's a nice, underappreciated first name. Rowan seems more like a surname, to me. I prefer variant Ronan to Rowan.Between Roman and Ronan, I prefer Ronan. I'm Irish (-American.)

Roman vs. Rowan Roman sounds more strong, romantic and handsome.

Of the two I would probably be more inclined to use Rowan. Both names have drawbacks to me. Roman is a bit of a label, but it has a nice sound. It does sound a bit like Roamin' though, however Rowan sounds a bit like Rowin'. Roman also means Novel in Dutch.

Roman seems like a fantastic name in theory, but not something I could justify if I actually used it. Therefore Rowan. I think it's nice, but can be used for both boys or girls, and I personally prefer names that are one or the other.

Rowan. Naming your son Roman is like naming your son French to me.

Same here.

I like Rowan and *really* don't like Roman. To me it's the equivalant of calling your kid Washingtonian or Parisian or Tacoman. Not my style.

I'm just curious do you live in Washington, you mentioned Washingtonian, and Tacoman. I live in Seattle.---------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to live in Tacoma back in the mid 90's, but now I live in Washington, DC. I'd rather be back in Tacoma than here in DC, I can tell you that! I miss seeing Mt. Rainier...

Rowan, because Roman is an ethnicity.

RowanI'd choose Rowan, because Roman reminds me of (A) Romans and (B) a character from Rosemary's Baby. To me it's more of an adjective than a name. I don't find it tacky or distasteful, though, just not my style.I actually like Rowan, not only when I'm choosing between the two. It has a natural feel to it, given the association to the trees and all. It seems pleasant, whereas Roman seems stuffy.

I don't care for either. But, if I had to choose one for a boy, I'd choose Roman, because it's much more masculine sounding than Rowan.

Neither one of them, but if I'd have to choose, it'd be Rowan.Roman is the Danish word for "novel", so every time I see the name Roman, I think about a book, of course.Rowan is beginning to grow on my though. But very, very slowly.{Edit: Started to, but decided not to.}♥Charlie Blue♥
