[Opinions] Temperance
My mother is currently loving this name. She said if she ever has another daughter she wants to name her Temperance.
What is your opinion of this name? I don't think it is terrible. It is just not my style. But I wanted to see what you all thought.
Thanks :)
ETA: It is a name that is not my style. But it is growing on me because she says the name so much. We like to discuss names. I guess she got me into liking names. So the name is growing on me. I wouldn't use it but I guess I wouldn't mind it on my little sister. If she ever chose to have more children. She says she probably won't have more children. But she just adores this name. Its her favorite girl name.

Yes, I like it. I have a weakness for virtue names, and I seem to like a lot that end with the -ence sound (w/ the major exception of Prudence!) like Patience and Remembrance.
I really like it, though I doubt I'd use it
It's ok. Nms.
My mother says if she ever had another child and it was a girl she would name her Genre. Hehe. :P

She could get kre8tyv and name her Jeanne Rah.
Luckily my mom is going through menopause, and I don't think my parents would ever adopt. I think I prefer the spelling Genre though, it's probably because I love books. But it's a little too out there for me. I like being a Marisa, if I hadn't been a Marisa I would have been a Mercedes. But my mom didn't like the fact that it was the name of a car company so she went with Marisa. Though ever since I found the name Mercia I've been wondering if my mom would have chose that name over Marisa if she had heard it. It's very similar and it can have the nn Mercy which was one of the things she liked about the name Mercedes. Aparently my mom did very little looking into names herself and it was my father would looked for name books for them both to look at. My mom mainly chose my name and my dad mainly chose my sisters name.

I like Temperance a lot. I like the sound of it very much, and as virtue names go, it has a very soft, gentle, not-so-in-your-face meaning. (Opposed to say, Purity or Deliverance.) Plus Tempe Wick is always a cool namesake:)
I don't mind the sound of the name but it reminds me too much of Prohibition.
Same here.
The sound isn't too bad, but the overwhelming association for me concerns booze, not just moderation or restraint in general. It's not a very flattering train of thought.

Agreed, and...(m)
I can't help but picture the episode of The Simpsons where Marge writes a romance novel (The Harpooned Heart) starring herself as Temperance, Homer as Captain Mordecai, and Flanders as Cyrus Manly.

Rofl!
How could I not have known that? I remember the novel, but not those names.
Flanders as Cyrus Manly, hehe. I believe you've just made my day. :-)

LOL :) And when my mom told me that name, she said she heard it on the television show Bones. So now whenever watching that show I'll think of it LOL.
Actually,
I first took note of the name in Kathy Reichs' mystery series, on which the tv show Bones is based. :o) In the books, Temperance's nn is Tempe (like Tempe, Arizona).

I was just thinking that...
