I don't mind the sound of the name but it reminds me too much of Prohibition.

Same here.
The sound isn't too bad, but the overwhelming association for me concerns booze, not just moderation or restraint in general. It's not a very flattering train of thought.

I can't help but picture the episode of The Simpsons where Marge writes a romance novel (The Harpooned Heart) starring herself as Temperance, Homer as Captain Mordecai, and Flanders as Cyrus Manly.

LOL :) And when my mom told me that name, she said she heard it on the television show Bones. So now whenever watching that show I'll think of it LOL.

Actually,
I first took note of the name in Kathy Reichs' mystery series, on which the tv show Bones is based. :o) In the books, Temperance's nn is Tempe (like Tempe, Arizona).
