I don't like it [m]WDYT of Mercedes? I think of a low class person, who is permiscuois [spelling?], due to this girl I knew in HS.How do you pronounce it? mer-say-dees

I love it.
People in America, unless they are from Spain, aren't going to pronounce it mer-THE-dhes. I would like to say it mehr-SEH-dhes but I'd probably end up m(schwa)r-SAY-deez, like the car company :(

Like itPr. mer-SE-dhes. I fell in love with it reading The Count of Monte Christo, and I love the nn Sadie. However, I would never use it as a fn, just because everyone I've known associates it with the car. Unfortunate.

Mercedes is goodMercedes is great and I love it. Nicknames Mercy and Sadie are both acceptable, as well as Cece and Deedee, and probably others I haven't thought of. I pronounce it with mer-SAY-deez or mer-SEH-des, depending on how twangy I'm feeling at any particular moment. Mercedes definitely has the rhythm for a classic middle name, but it could go first as well.Mercedes Amalia
Mercedes Janis

Nina Mercedes
Romy Mercedes
Helen Mercedes
Daphne Mercedes

Love itI wish it weren't the name of a car company. I think that prevents more people from using it. In my American accent, I say, "mer-SAY-deez." I love it with the nn Mercy or Sadie.
