[Opinions] Zel.
For a girl, that is. Namey enough? Too short? Could you take Dr. Zel Petersen seriously? (Not that it bothers me terribly if you can't, but just out of curiosity.) Whatever vibes you're getting, I'd be glad to hear about it.I've been digging the uber-short these past few days. Not to the point where my favourites are being shaken up over it, but still digging the idea. :)As for combos...Zel Cornelia, Zel Benedicta, Zel Ingeborg, Zel Rae? :D I'm currently picturing Zel Cornelia and Tam Lisette as sisters, heh.Array

It's ok. I automatically assumed it was for a male when I saw the title. Not sure why. I'd rather see it as a nn (for Zelda or Hazel, maybe?) but it's not awful by any means. Tam and Zel definitely sound like sisters, btw.

Reminds me of RapunzelBecause of this novel adaptation: http://www.amazon.com/Zel-Donna-Jo-Napoli/dp/0141301163/ref=pd_bbs_2/102-6059078-9069742?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181122482&sr=8-2. (Apologies for the long URL; SnipURL doesn't seem to want to work with Amazon.com links. :-/)I tried reading the novel's excerpt Amazon has there, but couldn't get past the weird present tense writing ("Zel rests her weight against the windowsill and leans out" vs. "Zel rested her weight on the windowsill and leaned/leant out", for example). Needless to say, that didn't inspire me to add the book to my collection, even though I'm a fairy tale nerd and Rapunzel is one of my favourite stories.

I think it's cute, but I would only use it as a nickname for Izellah, a name I adore.

I think that Zel is cute, but just a touch too short and nicknamey. Strangely I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it if it were spelled Zelle. I can still see you with a Zelda and Zel would work as a nickname for it : ) Or Zella for that matter.Zel Cornelia is really neat though, and Tam Lisette is adorable! How about, Zelda Rae & Tamsin Veronica?

Zel Rae sounds like it would be a company name of some sorts. I really like Zel Benedicta. It's pleasantly unique and very independant sounding, and yet not unfeminine. Zel itself isn't my style exactly, but I don't have any bones to pick with it. Edited to say: I could take a Zel seriously, no problem.

I'm not a fan of short names, myself, but I could take a Zel seriously. I would assume that Zel was a nn for something. Still, if the Zell Miller assocoation bothers you...then you could name her Zerelda and call her Zel. Zerelda was a name used infrequently in the 19th century. It's one of my gp's. Normally I wouldn't suggest Zerelda to anyone, but you seem to like odd names. :) Of your combos, I like Zel Cornelia the best. The super frilly Cornelia balances out the short and spunky Zel nicely.

I like Zel CorneliaI better not let my husband see that name, though, or he would not let me choose anything else.

I'm sure I could take a person named Zel seriously. It's hard for me to get an image of a woman with the name, though, because I immediately think of the former (male) senator from Georgia, Zell Miller:http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=M001141

Ugh, forgot about him. :-/ Not the kind of association I want, sigh.Well, at least I haven't yet abandoned Evening-Katharine-Ruxandra and the like in favour of Zel alone. :D This one may have to remain in the theoretical realm.Array

Both names are too short and nn for me, but then I tend to prefer long names.
I wouldn't have any problems with Zel or Tam Petersen, though if I only saw the names written down I might think Tam especially was a boy until told otherwise, since Tam is a Scottish short form of Thomas.

Zel. Just Zel seems like a boy name and it could work for a boy, I think. But just Zel for a girl doesn't work for me. Zel for a girl seems like a nickname for Zelda, not a full name. Also Zel just looks too short; it doesn't look right. The same goes for Tam.I just don't like it.-Tara

Zel Cornelia rubs me the wrong way, but I really like Zel. As for a combo, Cordelia would work so much better, and I love that name.I hope I've helped :)

I don't usually like shorter names, but for some reason Zel Cornelia is really appealing to me. I think it could work wonderfully.

Zel and Tam would be very cool.I still am in love with Zelda, but Zel doesn't sound so cutesy that it couldn't stand on it's own. I'm liking Zel Cornelia :)
