[Opinions] Pronunciation Question

How would you pronounce Lila? On babynamer.com they have a link where you can hear a clip of the name being pronounced. It sounds like they are saying Lee-la. Does anyone know what the correct or traditional pronunciation is? I prefer Lie-la. I've seen is spelled Lyla, but I prefer Lila.

Lila has two derivations, so it has two different pronunciations.When it's related to Leela, it's pronounced LEE-luh.When it's related to Lilah, Lilakh and Lilac, it's pronounced LIE-luh.Take your pick - I prefer LIE-luh.:-)

I pronounce it "lie luh", and that's the only way I've heard it pronounced.

I've heard it pronounced both ways. I prefer Lie-luh. That's why I like the Lilah spelling. No one ever seems to dispute its pronunciation.

I always have heard it pronounced like Lyla (lie-lah) and know a couple people here on the boards who prefer the name spelled Lilah. You really could pronounce it anyway you like but in the USA I've always heard it pronounced lie-lah. :)

Most likely lee-lah (based on people I know with Indian names that have the A and I in them. All the I's are pronounced EE, not IE). Also as a colour Lila is in Dutch pronounced as LEE-lah as well. When I see it I say LEE-lah immediately, because of the colour, but if it was a name on English speaking person I'd assume LIE-lah.

I agreeIt would be the same in Sweden, lila the colour is pronounced LEE-la so that is my first reaction. But as a name on someone from and English speaking country I would assume it was LIE-la.
I've never hear people say LIE-lo instead of LEE-lo though (Lilo) so I would hesitate.
