[Opinions] Adelle
We have an Adelle here on the boards. I was looking at this name today (and in a story or two I read). I'm really starting to like it. I think it is feminine, pretty, classy... and French, which if anyone has noticed is important to me. (I love French). What do you think of the name Adelle? Is it a better first name or middle name? Would it sound okay if the surname began with a D?

I love it, it's been one of my most consistent favourites over the years. It fits nicely in either fn or mn slot and while a D surname isn't ideal, it's not that bad either.I agree with Jen/Adelle about Adele being less balanced than Adelle, I only like the single l if it has the French accent on too.

I love it. I think it goes nicely in either spot.

I like it.And I agree with Adelle - it's more balanced with two Ls. It's a great name, with a cool history. I automatically think of Jane Eyre, though. :-D

Yes, Jane Eyre! Poor little Adelle... I also think of the Awakening (not my absolute favorite), but I believe there is a character whose first name is Adelle in it, as well.

Adèle Ratignolleis in The Awakening. I'm not a fan of American Lit, and The Awakening sort of reminded me of Mrs. Dalloway-lite, but it wasn't a bad read.

Ooh, I love this name! Who was it...I was doing an English report on someone that loved an Adele. Hmm. Anyway. Yes, it's very pretty, and a D surname would go well, I think.

Vraiment? Moi aussi... Anyway, back to the question: I adore the name Adelle. I usually don't like French names, but this is an exception [and I prefer Adelle over Adele]. It depends on the combo, but in most cases, I'd say FN. Yes, I believe it would work fine with a 'D' surname.

I prefer Adele I like it more as a middle name.My fav Adele combos are Evelyn Adele and Adele Katherine. :)

Adele Katherine is lovely. Thanks for the tip.

It's one of my favorites, spelled Adele especially. It's fine as a first name (nickname Della, which I much prefer over Addie), but, being two syllables with the emphasis on the second, it has a huge appeal as a middle name. I have combinations for both.My grandmother was Adele D_____, and no one objected to it. I think it's fine.

I'm fond of almost every Adel- name, Adelle is no exception.
Adelle would work fine as a fn or mn and with a D surname.
I prefer the Adelle spelling to Adele, which just doesn't look quite right to me.

I love it, as both a first or a middle name. I personally prefer Adele, but either way is great. It's fine with a D surname - actually kind of like the repetitive D sound.

Heh :DWell, I like it, obviously. If I had the guts to legally change my name, I'd be Adelle Sophia in a heartbeat (my real name is Jennifer. BLECH.)I think it's fine with a D surname and as a FN or a MN. I was originally drawn to it because it's feminine but not fussy, spunky and strong, and yes, classy. I like the French Adele, also, and I think Adela is pretty, too, but for me, it's just plain Adelle. :D+ I picked Adelle over Adele personally because I think that with the wide base of the A and the d, the single l just doesn't hold up. The double L looks more balanced to me. Probably dumb haha.

Hehe, not dumb, or we both are . . .If I use Adele in honour of my grandmother, it'll be spelled Adelle - for that exact same reason.:-)

Not dumbI think exactly the same thing about the balance of Adelle vs Adele. After knowing you for a while, Adele just looks weird...

my aunt is an Adelle nn Dell.
and a lovely name it is too :)Adelle can be either a mn or fn.. it can go with a lot of things.

I love Adelle, but the French spelling is Adele. Adelle is English. It makes a great first name and middle name, whichever you like. With a D surname it's not great, but if it's the absolute only name you love, it's okay to use it.

It's a new love. They are both hard D's too. Thanks for pointing out the correct spelling.

I think its a nice name.As for first or middle, I think it depends on the other name and whether it sounds better in front or after that name.

It's pretty, but not a personal top fave, and I prefer it as a mn, though I think it would definitely work in either spot. Depending on the sound of the last name, it could work fine.
