[Facts] How do you pronounce Eleutherius?
I was hoping someone could tell me how to pronounce Eleutherius correctly. It's a character in the book I'm reading. Am I right in thinking it would be something like Eleftherius like the British pronunciation of lieutenant? (since his nickname is Lefty)
Thanks :)
Thanks :)

In modern Greek, it is pronounced in this way: eh-lef-THE-ri-os.
The stress - on the 3rd sylable.
Each "e" - like in English "left".
The "i" - like in CaliIforn-i-a.
The final "-os" - like in "loss".

Pavlos would be able to tell you ... but he's not often around. It is my impression that in ancient Greek the -eu- combination was pronounced more or less like the English word "you", but in modern Greek it is indeed given the -ef- sound you suggest. So that would fit perfectly if your character inhabits a modern novel!
Eleutherius is a greek name, means "to rise, climb" and in Spanish we write Eleuterio, pronounced [eh - leh - oo - TEH - ree - oh]. I don't know the English pronunciation (perhaps [eh - liu - THI - rios]?).
