I struggle with the "just Maggie" question myself. I loathe Margaret, but I worry that Maggie just doesn't cut it. Lately, we've been liking Marguerite, but I'm not sure. Besides, I sort of prefer Daisy as a nn for that variant anyways and I really don't think more formal names are always necessary and see that Maggie is becoming like Lily in that they're not needed.
