I normally hate -ien names--they look sleepy-eyed and lazy to me in comparison to their brighter -ian counterparts--but I have suddenly fallen head over heels for Lucien. (I blame Neil Gaiman.) Prim and proper and tidy is doing it for me today, I suppose. :D

What do you think of it? On first glance, would you say LOO-see-in or LOO-shin? Right now, I think I prefer the former, but I like both.

Any combo ideas? I'm having trouble with pairing it with anything right now and would welcome any and all thoughts on the matter.

I dislike both Lucien and Lucian, but would pronounce Lucien 'lucy-un'

LOO shen. Sounds like this name should, to me. I dislike Loosy-yun.

I like it but I still prefer Lucian. It looks more masculine to me. Gaiman used Lucien? Gah, I wish I had more time to read.

He did. Lucien is the librarian of the Dreaming in The Sandman graphic novels; he keeps track of all the books that have ever been dreamt of, written and unwritten. Which I think would be a superawesome job, myself.

I'm really waffling on pronunciation today, hehe. Earlier in the afternoon, I preferred LOO-see-in, but now I'm agreeing with you. Perhaps I'd have to do as my friend Madeline's parents did with her--name him and tell him to pick which one he liked better. :D

At first sight, I would say it the French way - Loo-syan, kind of. I'm not good at writing down French prn. I like it just fine.

I like your thought further down of Lucien Robert Clair.

I really like it! Let's see. Lucian and Lucien. I see what you mean. Lucien almost looks sleazy next to his cousin. : p I would pronounce it LOO-see-in. I think that Lucien is more likely to be prn. Loo-seen than Lucian is. Ha, I'm just confusing myself now!

I'm digging Lucien James, though I'm wondering if it's a bit too typical? I also love the alliteration in Lucien Lysander, but Lysander hasn't appealed to me since I found out it's not pronounced LIZ-an-der, lol.

I say Loo-shin.
It's kind af a GP of mine, though I prefer Lucian.
And what about Lucius (loo-shus)? It has the same feel. Just a suggestion.

I feel that it should have a very strong, masculine mn; being as Lucien is a softer fn.

Out of curiosity, what are some names that you would consider strong and masculine enough to pair with Lucien? Just so I've an idea of what exactly you mean.

Well, I'm not too sure actually.
Lucien is just one of those names that I pair along with Elliot, Julian, Gabriel, Julius, Adrian, etc. They have a softer feminine (not quite the right word) touch but are still boys names that belong on boys.

I think something along the lines of...
Lucien Alexander
Lucien Charles
Lucien Ray - I know you want to use this mn, and it would work here
Lucien James
Lucien Maxwell
Lucien Nathaniel
Lucien Vincent
Lucien Tyler
Lucien Xavier
...traditional boys names, but it doesn't have to be this boring, I just really don't know what to suggest. Maybe ones with an older feel to fit with Lucien. I can't really think of any that would be your style though. You're a difficult one to match :)

I'd say LOOS-yen, and to be honest, I really don't care for it. I prefer Lucian (LOO-see-an), but don't care for that either. I abhor LOOSH-in. It sounds drunk and slurred to me. I adore Lucas, Luca and Luke but, as I remember, you can't stand them.

I actually have no real leanings either way on Lucas-Luca-Luke, but as one of my cousins is a Lucas "Luke", I wouldn't care to use them. :)

I really like Luciens Crow and Benedict (and I think you're thinking of Bendicht, which I'm not feeling so much here--feels a bit heavy with Lucien). Thank you for the ideas.

I rather dislike the name, I know a Lucian who's a complete jerk. Anyways I'm not sure if I'm liking Lucien any better than Lucian but I might because it reminds me less of that person. If I had to, I'd prefer the LOO-see-in pro. that doesn't sound as slurred. I think Lucien looks more apt to be pro. LOO-see-an than LOO-shun but I'm sure it could work either way. Usually I prefer -ian endings to -ien but it all depends on the name ex. I prefer Damian > Damien but Adrien > Adrian. I'm kind of liking Lucien over Lucian.

I prefer the Lucian spelling, but there's no real reason for that. I say LOO-shan, but that's just how I've heard it pronounced. The only times I've ever heard it pronounced, though, were in the movie "Underworld" (I love Michael Sheen) and on a baby at work. I think I 'met' the baby, Lucian Alissandro, before I saw the movie, and thought it was an odd name. This was 3 years back, mind you, and my taste has expanded since then. ;) I remember thinking he'd get called Lucy Ann, but I guess the -ien spelling might help with that a bit (unless you did prn. it loo-see-en, I suppose :-/).

No combo ideas at the moment, just a long drawn out explanation about the name. :b

I like Lucien, but I would never use it. I pronounce it "LOO-see-in" as I've only heard it that way.

I must admit I had a slight fling with the name Lucian a while back, but I've gone off it for no apparent reason. I don't mind it one bit for someone else though. I probably would say Loo-shin, but I like both and wouldn't mind if I was corrected :)

Thank you! I really like Lucien Clair and Lucien Robert; I'm tempted by Lucien Robert Clair, which was the name of one of my great-grandfathers. :D
