I suspect that this name is Indian, i.e., Hindu. Premnath is a Hindu name, and this looks like another spelling of same. An African- American connection would be hard to explain, unless the individual is of mixed ancestry, or is a member of one of those cults that adopt Hindu or Sanskrit names.
