[Opinions] Re: WDYTO Lucy?
in reply to a message by Haelda
Lucy's a wonderful name. One of my favourites. I prefer it on its own; it's quite strange for me to hear it as a nickname (though it's valid, I suppose). Thoughts on your combos:
Lucy Charlotte - It's nice, and the names sound great together, but somehow it sort of says, "I am so posh! No really! See how posh I am?" Charlotte's also a little too sweet and soft and combined with Lucy, the whole thing flops a bit. But I'm quibbling, because if I met a Lucy Charlotte in real life, I'd be happy. This is my third choice.
Lucy Jane - Sweet, but a bit too short, I think. Fourth choice.
Lucy Magdalene - Oh! My favourite! Magdalene (though it's one of my favourites) can be a bit over the top, but not when paired with sweet, understated Lucy. Next to Lucy, all it does is provide a nice backbone and make the combo very strong and defined. The length of the names complement each other perfectly. Yay!
Lucy Claire - Sounds quite bland, and reminds me of those snobby popular girls that don't exist in real life that Hollywood loves to churn out crap about (uh, nevermind, all the things Hollywood likes to churn out crap about don't exist in real life...). Also, it runs together like nobody's business. Last choice!
Lucy Adelaide - Wonderful. Adelaide, like Magdalene, is strong enough to hold Lucy up and make it strong as well, but it's also got a much more free-spirited, fun side. The whole combo is very charming. My second favourite.
Here are some other suggestions:

Wow, thank you so much for the great response! Lucy Magdalene, I have to admit, is also the one I lean towards the most. Lucy Jane has the cute, short, feel to it that would tempt me to say Lucy-Jane constantly like it was a double-first name, so I agree about the length on that one.
I also adore:
Lucy Margaret
Lucy Bridget (Bridget's on my PNL, and it has a family connection)
Lucy Caroline
Lucy Jillian (prefer the spelling Gillian)
and I like Lucy Harriet a lot more than I thought I would!
