Help[Opinions] Elizabeth/Isabelle
I saw a birth announcement the other day, "Elizabeth Fern joins sisters Abigail and Isabelle."
I always thought Isabelle/Isabel was Spanish for Elizabeth. According to this site it is, but may have another meaning. Nevertheless, I thought it kinda weird - I guess they sound different enough, but you could also look at it like they basically named two daughters the same name.

Yes, it is like they named two of their daughters the same name. Unfortunatly most people don't go into the history and meanings of names like people on this board do and therefore have no idea about names and end up doing silly things such as that!

is my Grandma's name. I also love Ella, and Lily as full names or nicknames. Isabelle/Isabella sounds too Spanish, and is one trendy name I dislike.

I never knew that until maybe a couple of weeks ago. They sounds and looks so different. That is a very nice subset. I love Elizabeth and I like Isabelle and Abigail a lot.

It is weird. Even the inaccurate name books that list variations of names always list Isabelle as a variation of Elizabeth(at least the dozen that I own or perused at the store).
The parents probably chose names they liked the sound of or named after a relative without checking books.

It is very likely that the parents of those girls had no idea of the link between Elizabeth and Isabelle after all as you mentioned they don't look or for that matter sound particularly alike and not everyone is a name nerd:)
