I always liked Picabo as a name for a girl, how do YOU say it?
I say "pee-kah-bow", but my mom says it's pronounced "pee-kah-boo" like Picabo Street the skier.
I don't see how it's pronounce Peekaboo at all, can it be said either way? I guess it could be said any way you want to really (like I prefer Cruz said Croosh (Portuguese way) instead of Crewz).

I really dislike. It would be pee-kah-bo to me.

I always wondered why on earth Picabo Street's parents named her that. And I also wondered why it's pronounced that way. I don't like it, either way you'd pronounce it.

If I didn't know about the skier, I'd say pih-KAH-boe (the end sounding like Cabo, as in Cabo San Lucas). It's the name of a place in Idaho, and perhaps some other places, so no telling what the 'real' pronunciation is.
Hold on...I looked up Picabo Street on Wikipedia, and apparently she's named after the town in Idaho, and it is pronounced like Peek-A-Boo. I could've sworn that I'd seen an interview with her years where she explained her name, and she said he parents couldn't come up with a name so they were going to let her pick her own. And they all, incl. her, thought Peek-A-Boo sounded so cute, but they wanted to spell it in such a way that it looked legit. The more I think about it, the more I think I probably dreamed or hallucinated that interview. :b

The sole girl-child of eight children born to hippies Dee and Stubby Street, they chose not to name their baby girl so that she could choose a name herself, and called her 'Little Girl' instead. When she was two, a trip to Mexico necessitated a passport, though passport authorities refused to process the document until she had a 'proper name'. Stubby and Dee chose Picabo, the name of a nearby town, Picabo, Idaho, which means 'shining waters'. They gave Picabo the choice when she was four to change her name, but she decided to stick with it.

My first image when I saw this name is "Pick-a-Ball"... sorry.

If it wasn't for the skier, I'd pronounce it Pick-a-bow. Yuck.
I'd say it could be said either way - it certainly isn't common enough to warrant one true pronunciation. Cute for a nickname, I guess, but it's certainly not my style. I prefer pee-kah-bow because it sounds less like the game you play with children.

I've never seen it before and was thinking pee-kah-bow. But I'm not one to really ask about PN, usually I am the one asking.
I do know plenty of people who prefer their name pn a different way then some think to pn it. I also know some whose parents pn their names differently, and its never bothered the person or the family before.

I think if *I* were to use it I'd pronounce it ph-kah-bow (pr pee-kah-bow) not pee-kah-boo, it reminds me of the children's game, lol.
