[Opinions] Miles and Eowyn
I need a middle name for Miles nn Miley on a girl. Also MN for Eowyn boy and girl suggestions. Thanks to edenrow I like Eowyn on a boy as well now (my mom always thought it was a boy's name anyways, lol). I do know Eowyn is a girl thought in LotR.

Again, why?I don't understand this. Miles brings to mind Miles Davis and many other literary characters. Eowyn is the name of a female in exceedingly popular films. Neither are even remotely androgynous. Plus Miley is such a stupid nn - and a total celebrity rip-off at that. A kid is going to have to live with their name. While I can see a female Miles somewhat well I cannot imagine a happy male Eowyn.

Miley is for a friend of mine who's name is Maile (though I dislike her spelling of it) it's not because of Miley Cyrus.ETA: I never heard of Miles Davis when I see Miles I think of walking miles. I also don't think Eowyn would be too bad not many people know who it is or how to even say it honestly unless they saw/read/like LotR.

I've never read LotR or seen the films in their entirety, but I know perfectly well that Eowyn is a female character. Especially after the films, pretty much everyone is familiar with LotR stuff. And that you don't know about Miles Davis does not cancel the fact that a lot of people know about him and will consider the name masculine.
I hope I don't come across as being rude, but you can't keep imagining that if you don't get a certain reference it doesn't matter, or just rely on the fact that in your mind a few people won't get a reference and therefore it doesn't matter.Anyway, as Siri said, I too can tollerate a female Miles (our own BtN Miles seems ok enough with it), but naming a boy Eowyn is like naming him Hermione or something.

I'm not looking for a certain reference I'm just saying I never heard of Miles Davis. As for Eowyn I highly doubt not because it'f feminine but for the fact people don't really know how to say it correctly, lol I do have it on my list for both genders though. I too think whenver I see Eowyn = LoTR automatically and I very well know who the character is but being a female character doesn't bother me "maybe" it would my son in some ways but it's only due to the double standard of society when it comes to names sadly [girls = weak, boys = strong thing].It's usually the younger generations who know who the character is that's all I was meaning by it. I just don't see what's wrong with having a feminine name on a boy but girls can have boys names which are more "acceptable".I don't mind people having those references at all when it comes to Eowyn or Miles but for me personally it doesn't bother me what type of reference it is as long as it's not bad or have a bad meaning.ETA: Just to let you know I'd use Eowyn on a girl before I'd use it on a boy. I'd probably end up pronouncing Eowyn e-oh-wyn for a boy anyways which is the wrong pronounciation. I have seen an Arwen on a few boys though.is there any other names that look like Eowyn for a boy (I dislike Owen, Eion, I used to like Ewan no longer now). I do agree though that is is like naming him Hermione. I'll probably save it for my sims.

Kids GROW upAnd Miles Davis is a widely known jazz artist - and is considered to be a genius by the majority of people. When she's an adult she will be asked - repeatedly - if she was named after Miles Davis.Ditto Eowyn.

true I agree with that

This is very trueBut since I WAS named after Miles Davis it doesn't bother me. I'm not sure how I would take it if I wasn't.

I find that funny, actuallyWhile Miles Davis was a genius at music he was also one of the meanest, craziest, and misogynist men ever. Still love his music, though.

Yeah, he wasn't the greatest human being on earth. but, well, what can ya do. Though, (mostly because of my name) If I were to name a child after someone I'd try to make sure that said namesake wasn't mad as a hatter :-)

LOLVery well-put.See my post above - I'm not sure whether I would honor him or not. :-D

My thoughts exactly.

Er . . .Between the books and the movies, LotR is one of the most widely-known fantasy franchises out there. Eowyn is a well-known name, and it is feminine, period.

I agree. I reckon a male Éowyn would change his name anyway. And I think Miley should be used on its own if that's the intended everyday form.

Miles on a girl isnt to my taste and I really dislike Eowyn on a boy its far too well know where I live as a girl name.
any of these would be better
Owain
Eoghan
Euan
Ewan
Eoin
Yoan (if its pronounced as it looks )

Sorry, I'm not feeling up to middle name suggestions at the moment, but phonetically Eowyn does sound like it could be a boy's name and the meaning would work too. However, the name was made for a female character, and even on a girl would be strongly associated with that character, so I don't think it would be a very good idea to name a boy Eowyn. There's always Eomer... :)

...or Eoin, Owen, etc.

yeah...I didn't think of those also being similar sounding names. I was mostly going for Eomer because he's her brother... :)

Woo-hoo! Welcome to the other side.
:)
Eowyn will be a fantastic name for your little boy.

Miles on a girl = Miles the girl getting teary with joy. BUT thinking of MN's for my own name on someone else feels very odd to me so I'm not really on top of my game (combo wise):Miles Aaliyah (this was the first thing that came to mind after Miles Solon, I don't know why)
Miles Morgana (sorry, sorry, I can't help it)
Miles LilyOkay, too weird. I'll give Eowyn a try:
for a girl:
Eowyn Lily (I think I'm in a Lily mood today :-))
Eowyn Forest
Eowyn Kalani (would work on a boy to, I guess)
Eowyn Vieaux (I'm listening to Jason Vieaux right now)For a boy:
Eowyn Harper
Eowyn Rufus
Eowyn Fox
Eowyn TannerETA: how about Ewan for a boy? or, for that matter, a girl... oh oh oh Miles Ewan! (sorry, that was completely uncalled for :-D)

I like:
Miles Solon - love your name :) I always loved Miles on a girl and thought it more feminine then masculine.
Miles LilyOkay, too weird. I'll give Eowyn a try:
for a girl:
Eowyn Lily
Eowyn Forest - really love this
Eowyn Kalani
Eowyn Harper - same as Eowyn Forest
Eowyn Fox

I don't like the idea of Miles on a girl. How about just using Miley as her full first name, or some of the similiar, more feminime names Murasaki suggested? Some Eowyn combos:
Eowyn Chandler (b)
Eowyn Christopher
Eowyn Thomas
Eowyn Kyran
Eowyn Stephen
Eowyn Alexis (b)
Eowyn Abigail
Eowyn Shea (g)
Eowyn Tierney (g)
Eowyn Olivia
Eowyn Charlotte
Eowyn Michaela

I agree with penguiny7 and LMS. And if you want Miley as a nickname for a girl, what about Mila, Mildred, Camilla, etc. I can't make middle names suggestions because I can't take names on the wrong gender seriously. I don't see how you can consider for a boy a name that's so largely associated with a female character.
