[Opinions] Arthur
I think this name has climbed to my top three. When I posted my classics list, I think it was the least popular out of the male names, but it has all of the things I like about a name, but what I find most alluring is the slight period of disfavor, while not being forgotten totally, or tossed into the abyss. It's like not planting a field for a year so it can gather its nutrients.I'm really fond of it--but I would NOT consider Artie or Art as nicknames--only the formal.Arthur Andrew
Arthur Benjamin
Arthur Daniel
Arthur Henry
Arthur James
Arthur Louis
Arthur Samuel -- top choice

I love Arthur. It's so classic and historical and handsome. :-)I like Arthur Henry from your list. Some of my combos are Arthur Bertram and Arthur Maurice (MOR is).

I like Arthur a lot. It has that wonderful mythical quality and strength to it. I don't think I could ever use it because someone in his life will shorten it to Art or Arty at some point and I hate both of those nns.
From your combos I really like Arthur Henry and Arthur Samuel. My favourite combo for it is Arthur Valerius.

Arthur Henry (Llewellyn) is in my top 3, too. I adore Arthur in full but hate every one of his potential nicknames, which is why he's #3 and no higher. Arthur James, Arthur Louis & Arthur David are also wonderful. Samuel drags Arthur down, flow wise.. it's the transition from ArthuR to Samuel that trips me up. Could be just me though. The only one I outright dislike, is Arthur Andrew. Arthur's sweet, dignified and sedate, Andrew's breezy, lightweight and rather flighty. They just don't mesh any way I look at them (Arthur's burgundy, Andrew's sky blue, Arthur's dignified, Andrew's a clown, Arthur's serious, Andrew's the freewheeling playboy...). I hope that made some sense. I know, I'm odd. :)

I love Arthur. It's one of my top male names. It's a handsome, solid name with so much history behind it.Like you, I prefer it without a nickname. From your list of combos, I like Arthur Benjamin, Arthur James, Arthur Louis, and Arthur Samuel. It's funny that I don't care for Arthur Daniel because the opposite, Daniel Arthur, is one of my favorite combos. (My favorite Arthur combo is Arthur Frederick.)

Funny, just last week my youngest dd (9) told me she wanted to name her two sons Arthur and Malcolm (Malcolm is for Malcolm X but I don't know where she gets Arthur from!). I can't say I love it but I agree with you that Arthur tops Art and Artie (shudder). Arthur Benjamin stands out to me. Quite handsome.

I love Arthur--it brings to mind a lot of really good associations--and while I do also love Art and Artie (as in Tatum and Shaw, natch), I can totally dig using just Arthur. Very handsome--immediately reminds me of Christian Bale's character in Velvet Goldmine, to be honest. :)Of your combos, I think I like Arthur David the best, and then Arthur Louis (I'd also like Arthur Lewis). Samuel doesn't hold up well next to Arthur, in my mind--too plodding in comparison to A's smoothness.Array

I'm finding Arthur very refreshing to see right now. It is a family name for me and I wouldn't rule out using it. I'm not so fond of Arthur Andrew, but that is just me not liking double initials. I love Andrew and I love the rest of your combos, but I am not sure which I like the best.

It's a very nice name. Henry and James work best as mns. I 'm not a huge fan of nns, but I don't mind Art so much.

I like Arthur. I think it's a strong, masculine name. Some might think it's dated but I see it as timeless. Out of your combos I love Arthur James. That's a handsome name ;)

I love the combo Arthur James, but I like Isaac James more (that is my No. 1 choice). And even more troublesome, I recently started adoring James Henry. I think Arthur Samuel is good.

Slightly OT...I love James Henry! I don't much care for James as a name (negative associations) but I love that combo. It's wonderful!

I like it too - because it has a certain old-fashioned dignity and historical weight about it - and is severe/almost ugly. I know that sounds like a negative thing, but to me it's not! There are so many cutesy, breezy boy names these days that I appreciate the counterbalance of a name like Arthur. LOVE Arthur James. Do agree that the Artie/Art nns are awful.

About what you said about it being severe/ugly...maybe, compared to the general taste of the population--but these tables tend to turn mercurially. I agree with you.

Hmmm, I see what you mean! I mean, who would have predicted (well, I certainly wouldn't) that a name like Oscar would have become so popular in the last few years! Ugly was perhaps the wrong qualifier for me to use...I think it has to do with the transition from the first "r" to the "th" to the "ur" in the name, which to me bucks the trend of names ending on the upswing, so to speak!

I love Arthur and it's on my PNL.
Arthur James is lovely (both names are on my PNL) as is Arthur Daniel.
I don't like Artie or Art as nn either. I like Archie though.

they all sound fine. i wouldn't use Arthur Andrew though, because of the alliteration.

Hmmm...I don't think alliteration is bad. I am Brandon Bijan. If a girl I would have been Melanie Marie.
