[Opinions] Disturbing birth announcement name from paper
Ok, anyone reading this, please make sure you're sitting down! Are you sitting? Alright, I saw an announcement for a newborn little girl and her name shocked me. It's, Buffy Willow! Buffy fans unite anyone? Her parents are Andrew and Lisa-Maree and she has siblings Charlotte-Ruby and Zane. Doesn't really seem to fit does it? Well not imo anyway. Charlotte Ruby would have been nice, as a fn/mn combo, not a double fn. Although I'd prefer Ruby Charlotte even more. Anyway, opinions on Buffy Willow are most welcome. I can't wait to hear this!

Hmmm ... I like Willow a lot (not so much Buffy and definitely not paired together). BTW, my nieces named their family's two cars Buffy and Willow!

I don't find it disturbing [m]In General:
I don't see any differene then using name(s) from anything else a person likes (movies, authors, music, et). I don't see why people need to use "dumb" or "stupid" to describe something someone really likes whatever it may be. I think you can say what you need to say about the subject even being blunt about it, but in a tactful way. You don't need to go out of your way to be harsh to someone's tastes just because one doesn't like it (IMO). This is a huge pet peeve of mine. The person might like Buffy the Vampire Slayer what's so bad or wrong about that? The parents might be a Buffy fan then again thy might not be that's just my two cents on the overall subject. About the Name:
I like the name Buffy I'd never use it in general, but as a NN it's cute. Willow makes a nice middle name but it's way overused.

I never called anyone dumb or stupid. I just find the name combo to not be to my taste and I find it tacky in all honesty. It's because of the Buffy association really, not that the show was bad, I just wouldn't name a child of mine after two characters from a tv show that was way before their time.

Buffy Willow? Yuck. I don't like it. At all. It sounds like one of those names that sounds great and cute on a small baby but don't fit a grown up person. Besides, Buffy sounds like a cat's name. And Willow is plain right silly.

I don't like the name Buffy at all. When watching the series, I always thought that Buffy is such a silly name for a person. It sounds like the name of a dog of Paris Hilton to me. Willow is nice, but with Buffy it's just way too 'vampire slayer'.

I love it!And so do my kids, JD Dr. Kelso and Elliot-Turk Carla.Actually to be honest I kind of like Buffy as a nn for something but that combo is way too much.

Oh SOMEONES a Buffy fan!Either that or they liked the two names together and didn't know about the show. In any case, it doesn't seem to fit. :0)

Ha ha ha.I was always a great fan of "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer", and I always thought Buffy was a great role model (before season 6 came along, at least). She was my favourite female character on the show, but if I were to name my daughter after her, I would have used Summer (since Summers is Buffy's surname). But the name Buffy will simply invite teasing, à la "Buffy is in the buff!" That kind of thing. It works for a fictional heroine, but not in real life.As for Willow: it is a perfectly normal name to me and it is the name of Will Smith's daughter. I don't like the character of Willow very much myself, so I definitely wouldn't ever have used that name. The combination of the two names isn't so bad, but I think the child would have been better off if it had been Willow Buffy instead. But I think she will probably go by her middle name at some point in the future, anyway - after the teasing became too much for her.All in all, it could have been much worse. Yes, the names simply scream "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer" - but at least she was not saddled up with one of those awfully kre8tiv names, like Mikhaylah Dysteney.

It's ridiculous to impose your taste in TV soaps, of all things, on your children and anyway Buffy is such a silly name independetly from the show (it says here it's a nn for Elizabeth, which I've always found odd). Willow is a bit of a GP and I certainly wouldn't match it with Buffy, of all names.

Yea...that's pretty dumb to name your child after a canceled 90s t.v show. I actually don't mind the name Willow. It has a nice sound to it and it's a nature name which is cool. But to be called Buffy for ever, i'd be mad at my parents. Willow Buffy is better lol.

I see nothing wrong with that all!Sincerely,Chandler Ross, Josephine Phoebe, and Rachel Monica* LOL, definitely a tad much.

Yikes. That's uncool. Much as I loved the show for the first few seasons, I'd never name my daughter that.I mean, what if I was a fan of Scientology? Would I name my daughter Elle Ron? No. Or worse, the Simpsons? Homer Bart/Bart Homer. Ughhh.

o_ODear parents of the world,Your child is not you. Please refrain from projecting your daydreams onto your infant offspring.Regards,
Chrisell.PS: They will never be a superhero even if you name them after one. C.***Buffy Willow is just . . . blech. I look back and cringe at having liked the combo Gabrielle Xena when I was a teenager - thankfully I grew out of that one years ago! How embarrassing for the poor child. Buffy itself is bad enough, but to make it so overtly BtVS related . . . :-(
