[Opinions] Cate
I've really been liking the nn Cate as of late, what do you guys think of it? I worry Cate is so short and common that it is almost like a non-name if that makes any sense. I've been liking Kitty as a nn for a while now but wonder if its too strange/stripper-ish in other people's opinion (Personally I think its adorable) But Cate is so timeless...I just don't know

I think Catherine nn Cate would be alright but I prefer Catherine without a nn. Katherine nn Kate looks better to me. Cate makes me think of the end of verbs like replicate or masticate, etc. :b
Kitty's cute as a nn, but I'd worry about teasing, too. :-/

I like Cate a lot and Kitty is adorable. It reminds me of my late aunt and That 70s Show.

Cate is very classic, especially as a nn for Catherine.
my favourite would be Kate as a nn for Katherine, i adore it..
second i would choose Cate as a nn for Catherine because it feels rather contrived compared to Kate..
then lastly i would say Kitty as a nn for Katherine- it comes accross as silly and cutesy to me. my first thought wasn't stripper, but dislike it very much, especially when there is a nice nn like Kate you can use.

I prefer Kitty to Cate. Cate is just Kate spelled with a C. It looks more kr8tive, and there's an overabundance of Kates and Katies in my age group that I'm tired of it.
Kitty does not seem strange or stripperish, to me. It also has the bonus of being shortened to Kit, if the child prefers it to Kitty when they get a bit older. It's different, but also a bit retro. I like it a lot.

Cate is a nice name, but I prefer Kate. Cate always makes me think immediately of Cate Blanchett, which is sometimes a good thing and sometimes not!
Ms. Blanchett is my immediate association also, as I don't know any Cates-with-a-C. I like her, so it's all good :-) I don't like nicknames as given names, so I would prefer to see it as a nickname for Catherine, Caitlin, Catalina, or whatever else you can think of.
Kitty reminds me more of the mom from that 70's show than a stripper. And my step sister's full name is Katie - not short for anything, just Katie. She goes by Kate sometimes.
Actually, I quite like Cate in both sound and look. Like it better than Caitlin or any of the other versions. Its shortness is what attracts me.
