Anthony used to be my favorite boys name, but it just lost its charm. It's still a very nice name, and I might use it if my SO wants to honor someone, but I'm just personally not that fond of it anymore.

I've honestly never cared for it. I do like Anton. One of my dearest acquaintences is named Anton, prn. ANN-tin.

Anthony is a name that I almost like, and feel as though I SHOULD like, but I am neutral on it. I think I am discouraged by the combination of the th and y ending. For that reason I love Anton.
And, to be honest, I don't have a super impression of a person with that name, either...in my experience, Anthony is kind of coarse.

I only know one Anthony. He is my cousins son and has a twin brother Christian. I quite like the name. As, the Anthony I know got 9 A* and 1 A in the last lot of exams he took I always think of Anthonys as very bright people.

I love Anthony although I worry people find it very dull. (It isn't top 100 here, so at least it isn't overused.) I notice younger people are starting to use the American pronunciation AN-thu-nee, whereas 30-year-olds upwards favour AN-tun-ee and mostly go by Tony (which I hate).

All in all, I do think it's a great name. One of my favourites.

It's the name of too many of my computer science lecturers for me to see it as anything but nerdy and geeky!

Interestingly enough, I was reading about this name last night because my friend was round and her older brother is called Anthony. I have an old baby name book from 1980 (published in Britain) which is quite an interesting read because it remarks upon whether names were becoming popular, losing popularity etc at the time. It also has other random facts about a lot of the names. For Anthony it says:

I really like it and it is a name I would use. I have a good friend with the name.

I like it, I guess. It is on my list. If I ever used it though it would be paired with a 'J' mn so the nn could be "AJ". I think of all the 'A' names I would pick this one to be the fn. Plus this would avoid the nn "Tony", which I hate.

I've known several Anthonys over the years, all different types. It's a very solid name to me, with a slight "working-class" feel to it. However, as I've said, I've known so many different types of people with the name - a construction worker, my boyfriend's brother who is very "boy-band" material to professors. It just seems to suit everyone type of person. In otherwords: Safe.

My brother and my boyfriend both have the middle name Anthony, so it's significant to me. I don't love it, though, and I have bad associations with the nn Tony (though I have a good one, too). I might use it as a mn to honor, though I would rather use Antonia.

I love the name Anthony. I especially started liking it more when I started watching 24 since that's one of the main characters names although he doesn't go by it

I like it, but the fact that it is so popular for TV characters has kind of turned me off it. I like Antonie for a girl the best.

Funny enough... I agree with you about bad associations. I knew a guy named Anthony (only allowed to call him Anthony) who was so self-absorbed. So this name is forever ruined for me.

I have a cousin named anthony. He's okay I guess. I do like this name.
