Help[Opinions] Shelby
This is a name I hadn't heard for a while. I had thought of it since the Julia Roberts movie - so does have some sadness attached to it! But I kind of like it is femine, a little bit unusual but not to our there, what do you think?

I think its cute - nms but I would love it on someone's child. I agree that it's in that nice area between unusual and too out there.

It's pretty popular around here for girls. I don't like it at all, and can't think why except it sounds like She'll Be. My husband really liked it and wanted to use it, but I had to put my foot down. After all, he'd put his foot down about how he can't stand the name Maria, which I love. lol

I don't think it's unusual
I've met quite a few in my age group with the name. A good portion from the Steel Magnolias movie, the other from it being a family surname.
I like it only if it's a family name of some sort.

It doesn't seem unusual at all, really.
I know a lot of girls at my high school (a lot of sophomores, actually) named Shelby. It's seriously ubiquitous. And according to US popularity charts, it's still fairly popular. It just feels trendy and dated to me.

The sad part is, I know a redheaded girl called Shelby specifically after a shiny red Shelby Mustang. It might possibly be one of the saddest things I've ever heard :(

My parents almost named me Shelby. I'm glad they didn't. I don't really like it. I think it sounds more masculine than feminine.

I've never really liked it. It makes me think of the stuck-up fashionistas who bully people at shool. Sorry. I preffer Shaylyn.

Shelby first makes me think of the geeky girl in the corner with her knee-high socks scrunched down to her ankles, and then I think of an annoying, uptight middle aged lady who's always wringing her hands, laughing very fakely, and has way too much Botox.
