Prefer Katja (the normal spelling in my country). The thing is, I don't like the whole name, no matter what spelling is used, but I've got a real problem with how Americans etc. pronounce the name. It sounds neither "complete" nor abbreviated etc. to me. That's a strange feeling, but I really hate this pronounciation. I almost always prefer a straight "ay" or short-ish (you know: clear) "a" sound as in 'A'nna. What lies in between... no.
Btn only provides an approaching pronounciation if you click on "Katja".
In Germany, that is, Katja is pronounced by using a shorter "a", not such a long "a" as in "KAHT-". But I guess Americans etc. pronounce Katja (every spelling) like btn tells you - or not?
As for the Russian pronounciation, I'm not sure, but I think it's pronounced very much like in Germany... Or am I wrong here?

I don't mind the name, though I wouldn't use it myself. I think I like Katya the best.

I really like Katya. I have Katia on my personal name list as that is the spelling I prefer but I can't help but think that some people may pronounce it KAY-tee-ah. Katya would be better if you don't want people to pronounce the name wrong but in my opinion, Katia looks nicer. I dislike Katja. I don't like the way it looks and I think it will get mispronounced very often.

I have a friend with this name. I think its lovely, and I don't think the syllables should be a big problem. I like the spelling Katya the best.

I really like this; I have no idea why it hasn't made its way onto my PNL yet *adds*. I can't decide whether I like Katja or Katya better *dithers* OK I pick...Katja. It looks a little more 'authentic' I guess.

It's a nickname, and should stay that way. I love it as such, though. Katya and Katia are both lovely.

I really like the sound of this name. I prefer the Katia spelling but also love the Katja spelling. I don't think it's awkward at all, it has a really beautiful sound koht-ya. Lovely!I really like the combo Katia Rae and it was on my favorites list for quite some time. I've since dropped it because I'm really into honoring names right now.
