[Opinions] Re: Initial Nicknames on girls
in reply to a message by Greenleaf
I've never personally been fond of initial nicknames for either boys or girls, but there's nothing wrong with them. If you really like it, go for it! I'd just be careful about which initials you put together if you want to use them as a nn. For example, say you wanted a T middle name. DT is awkward, ET is extra terrestrial, MT is "empty," TT is too cutesy, so that leaves you with JT (using only letters from your list). Also, with D first names, DT was already discussed, DM is dungeon master, DE is said dee-ee and is a bit stuttery, and DJ is, well, a DJ (though DJ might not be bad initials). I suppose DD is a little cutesy, but acceptable. I'm not going to do all the letter combinations, but I think you get the idea...
As a random thought, it might be that J's work so well because they are a distinct sound. Words often start or end with sounds like "ee", "dee," "tee," and "em," so initial nicknames can start sounding like words.
Um, so some letter combos I like are: EJ, EM, MJ, TJ, JT, and JD. A combo I like for each:
EJ: Eleanor June
EM: Elisabeth Maeve
MJ: Meredith Jane
TJ: Thalia Juniper
JT: June Theodora
JD: Joanna Delfine
